Meme: In My Mailbox (1)

In My Mailbox is a weekly meme from The Story Siren where you can share bookish things you’ve acquired recently.

Mongoliad Book 1 by Neal Stephenson, Greg Bear, Mark Teppo, E.D. deBirmingham, Erik Bear, Joseph Brassey, Cooper Moo $.99 Kindle eBook

Mongoliad Book 2 by Neal Stephenson, Erik Bear, Greg Bear, Joseph Brassey, Nicole Galland, Cooper Moo, Mark Teppo, Mike Grell $2.99 Kindle eBook

Mongoliad Book 3 by Neal Stephenson, Greg Bear, Mark Teppo, Nicole Galland, Erik Bear, Joseph Brassey, Cooper Moo, Mike Grell $2.99 Kindle eBook

All of these books I received through Netgalley:

Pretty Dark Nothing by Heather L. Reid

The Best of Connie Willis by Connie Willis

The Huaca by Marcia Mickelson

Peregrine Harker and the Black Death by Luke Hollands

The Geneva Decision by Seeley James

The Iron Duke by L. Ron Hubbard

Trick Soldier by L. Ron Hubbard

Spreadable Media: Creating Value and Meaning in a Networked Culture by Henry Jenkins, Sam Ford, Joshua Green

Spellbinding by Maya Gold

The Sweetest Dark by Shana Abe

Needless to say, I clearly need ‘book requester anonymous’. I’m done buying and requesting books until I can make some real progress on all of these. But so exciting to have such a variety to pick from! Have you read any of these books? What did you think of them?

    • Thanks! Most of them are new to me or I had a cursory awareness of them before so I look forward to seeing that they hold. πŸ™‚

    • Thanks! The Sweetest Dark was actually on a list on netgalley as being one of the most requested books there. So hopefully that bodes well for it. πŸ™‚

    • It’s just so nice to discover new books. But I think I really must stop requesting for a while because I’d rather not deal with any guilt over not being able to finish them all.

  1. You have a lot of interesting books here! I’ve never heard of the Mongoliad series. The covers make me want to check them out. Great haul!

    • Thanks! I found out about the Mongoliad series through Sword and Laser. They interviewed the authors of it in one of their earlier YouTube shows on the Geek and Sundry channel. I’m not sure I’ve ever read a collaboration of that extent before so I’m very curious to read it. πŸ™‚

    • The amount of interest in Sweetest Dark is making me bump it up in my little mind’s queue of what book I read next. I had never heard of Shana Abe before. Thanks!

    • Definitely! While I’ve only just started blogging, I’ve been reviewing for about three years and love the review copies. I just want to make sure that I don’t get behind with books; the guilt of not finishing them is something that I could see quickly draining away the fun that can be had with this. πŸ™‚

      • Agreed. Sometimes even the knowledge that I “have to” read a book drains some of the fun out of it. And sometimes I miss the spontaneity. Right now I’m reading Oz Reimagined, and while I’m finding the stories interesting and well-written so far, what I’d really like to be reading tonight is either Scarlet or the new Robyn Carr. But it’s worth it to be able to review books I might not otherwise have a chance to read — like this Oz book — as well as occasionally getting an advance look at something I’m eager to read — like the new Maggie Hope mystery. (Just got approved for the e-ARC today!)
